Hintergrund der Stunde

Oh, the tears I’ve cried
It’s been awhile since I’ve lost count

It’s been awhile since that first moment
of vulnerability, high above the vibrant city’s roofs
It’s been awhile since the first notes
the talks at night on a hotel floor
It’s been awhile since the first letters
the coffies in a cosy city’s small café
It’s been awhile since the first song
that clearly must have been written
for you and me
It’s been awhile since awkward talks
and airplanes
It’s been awhile since continents disappeared
It’s been awhile since rules were made to be broken
It’s been awhile since reason won you back again

But most of all, it’s been awhile since I last held you close
I never really did, I must admit,
as if the fear to break the precious gift
was numbing me and turning me timid
It’s been awhile since I last saw your face
that is, if photographs don’t count
It’s been awhile since I last said your name
directly to your face, instead of crying out at night
It’s been awhile since you were here with me.

Oh, the tears I’ve cried
It’s been awhile since I’ve lost count
